Sequinned by the sea

Colour and texture are our world, and they shape what we are and what we wear. Much of what we wrap ourselves in during winter is a reflection of the cloudy skies and flowerless trees; translated to dark colours and equally flowerless prints. Spring 2012′s fashions are shaped by a want for optimism, reflections of blue skies and bluer waters and the magic of creatures that frolic there – if only in our imaginations.

Sequins and pailettes aren’t just decoration for party dresses, they’re the scales of mermaids. Metallic snakeskin goes beyond what occurs in nature. A shimmy of fringing is the plumage of an exotic bird. That much stylist Rita Lazzarotti and photographer Manuel Nogueira know – and perfectly capture with their matching of colourful, textured outfits with highly saturated imagery.

Martha Streck’s shoot is from the January 2012 issue of Elle Brazil.
