Come into the Castle, Maud

Showcasing couture gowns against a featureless white backdrop would be unfair. These are gowns that deserve a surrounding as lavish as their hand-stitched details and delicate fabrics – a backdrop like the Palace Hotel Shangri-La in Paris, perhaps.

That’s where Benjamin Kanarek shot his latest haute couture editorial for the November 2012 issue of Harper’s BAZAAR en EspaƱol. Maud Welzen is prim and polished in poker straight sleek hair and flawless skin, princessly in the fall 2012 haute couture season’s best gowns by Elie Saab, Atelier Versace, Jantaminiau, Chanel and Givenchy, to name a few.

Benjamin Kanarek’s shots play to the architecture of the gowns and to the architecture of the grand rooms, using space and symmetry to create pristine, portrait-like poses.
